About The Role

Be part of a forward thinking team transforming how children and young people access inclusive, responsive and meaningful mental health support across Birmingham.

As an Engagement and Equalities Practitioner within Compass Birmingham MHST, you will lead the coordination and delivery of our equalities and engagement strategy, ensuring children, young people and families shape how services are designed and delivered. You will embed evidence based co production practices across locality teams and strengthen participation at every level.

Working across schools, colleges and community settings, you will facilitate consultation and focus groups, develop engagement materials and co produce accessible approaches that reflect local need. You will build strong relationships with youth councils, faith and community groups, and coordinate peer champion networks and a shadow leadership team to ensure lived experience informs operational decision making.

You will deliver mental health promotion, psychoeducation and brief psychosocial interventions, alongside assertive outreach to those facing barriers due to protected characteristics or additional vulnerabilities. As a subject expert in participation and inclusion, you will upskill colleagues and contribute to a place based, flexible and child centred service.

About You

You are passionate about equality, inclusion and ensuring children and young people have a genuine voice in the services they use. You will bring:

  • Experience of working with children, young people or adults in community settings
  • Experience of involving service users in the design, delivery and development of services
  • Experience of partnership and multi agency working
  • Confidence delivering group sessions, workshops or awareness raising activity
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, equality and diversity legislation and data protection
  • An understanding of child and adolescent development
  • Confidence using digital platforms and social media to engage young people
  • A full driving licence and access to a vehicle to meet the travel requirements of the role

If you are unable to drive due to a disability, we welcome your application and will explore reasonable adjustments, including support through Access to Work where appropriate.

You are resilient, adaptable and able to communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences. Experience delivering health education or mental health promotion is helpful but not essential.

Join us in creating a service where every child and young person feels heard, valued and supported to thrive.
