Clinical Lead - Public Health Nursing

Great clinical leadership is not just about standards, policies and assurance. It is about creating the conditions for nurses to do their best work, and for children and families to receive the care they deserve.

As our Clinical Lead for Public Health Nursing, you will provide senior clinical and professional leadership for the 5 to 19 Public Health Nursing Service across Tower Hamlets, helping shape the quality, safety and direction of school nursing across the borough.

You will be a trusted clinical voice for the service, supporting teams through complex decisions, strengthening safeguarding and clinical governance, and making sure practice is safe, consistent and grounded in what children, young people and families actually need.

You will work closely with commissioners, schools, health partners and senior leaders, turning national guidance and population health insight into practical services that respond to local communities and help reduce health inequalities.

You will also help develop the clinical workforce, strengthen leadership across the service and provide strategic oversight of the commissioned Oral Health Service.

You will be an experienced clinical leader who understands that credibility comes from more than seniority. You will listen, challenge when needed, support people through difficult decisions and create confidence in the standards you set.

• Registered Nurse with current NMC registration
• Specialist Community Public Health Nurse qualification, or substantial experience leading an SCPHN team
• Master’s level knowledge gained through postgraduate study or equivalent senior professional experience
• Significant leadership experience within school nursing, 5 to 19 Public Health Nursing or a comparable children’s community health service
• Experience leading clinical governance, quality, professional standards and risk
• Experience working with commissioners and senior partners across organisational boundaries
• Experience managing complex safeguarding, serious incidents or professional practice concerns
• Strong knowledge of the Healthy Child Programme, safeguarding and health inequalities
• Experience developing clinical teams through workforce planning, recruitment, retention and professional development
• Confidence to make difficult decisions, influence others and remain calm when situations are complex

A Master’s degree, advanced safeguarding, coaching, mentoring or quality improvement qualification would strengthen your application, alongside experience of public health commissioning or service transformation.
