About The Role

This is an opportunity to lead services that genuinely change lives.

As Service Manager for Barnsley MHST and Wakefield service, you will shape how children, young people and families experience mental health support across two established and high impact services. Every decision you make has the potential to improve access, strengthen outcomes and create lasting change in local communities.

You will lead with purpose, bringing together skilled multidisciplinary teams to deliver support that is timely, compassionate and effective. Your leadership will create the conditions for people to do their best work, building a culture that is values led, inclusive and focused on what truly matters for children and families.

This role goes beyond service delivery. You will work alongside schools, health services and community partners to make support feel more joined up, easier to access and focused on helping children and young people earlier.

You will use what you see, hear and learn alongside the data to keep improving the service, making sure it is safe, effective and making a real difference to children and families. As Designated Safeguarding Lead, you will take the lead on safeguarding, making sure children and young people are protected and that safe practice runs through everything the service delivers.

If you’re ready to step into a role where you’ll lead teams, shape services and take ownership of how support is delivered, this is your move.

About You

You are an experienced leader who shares our values and brings them to life through how you work. You bring clarity, confidence and a steady approach to managing services and people. You know how to create direction, build trust and support teams to deliver high quality work, even when things are complex or changing.

You will bring:

  • A core professional qualification in a relevant health, care or education field
  • Experience leading services or teams supporting children and young people
  • Experience managing multidisciplinary teams delivering mental health or wellbeing support
  • Strong understanding of safeguarding and governance, with the confidence to take the lead when needed
  • Experience managing performance, risk and service delivery against expectations
  • Ability to build strong, credible relationships across partners and stakeholders
  • Confidence using data, insight and judgement to guide decisions and improve services
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to influence, challenge and support others

You may also bring experience of leading service development, working across multiple sites or contributing to wider system change. Experience of contract management or developing others through coaching or mentoring will strengthen your impact.

This isn’t a role for someone who wants to maintain the status quo. If you’re ready to step forward, take ownership and lead with clarity and purpose, this could be exactly what you’ve been looking for.
