About The Role

Compass is looking for passionate and committed people to join our Board as Non-Executive Directors, helping shape the future of services that enable children and young people to thrive and live out their dreams.

As a national charity delivering early intervention and prevention services across mental health, emotional wellbeing, school nursing, risky behaviours and other specialist areas, the decisions made by our Board help shape how our services develop, improve and reach the families and communities who need them most.

As a Non-Executive Director, you will provide independent oversight, constructive challenge and strategic guidance. Working alongside fellow Board members and our Executive Team, you will help shape the long-term direction of Compass, strengthen governance, oversee quality and safeguarding, support innovation and ensure we continue delivering high quality services for children, young people and families.

We are looking for people who bring different perspectives, skills, experiences and ideas. Your contribution may come through your professional expertise, leadership experience or lived experience. Whether your background is in finance, healthcare, safeguarding, education, digital, legal, public or private sector or another field.

Our values of Integrity, Valuing Each Individual Being Solution Focused and Being Consistent and Reliable are at the heart of everything we do. It’s not just what we do, it’s the way that we do things at Compass that makes Compass special.

The decisions you help make today will influence the support children, young people and families receive tomorrow. If that inspires you, we'd love to hear how you can help shape the future of Compass.

For more information about who we are, where we are going and some of the people you'll be working with, please see the information pack attached to the advert.

About You

We're looking for people who share our ambition to improve outcomes for children, young people and families and who can contribute positively to an effective, collaborative, and forward-thinking Board.

You may bring professional expertise, leadership experience, governance knowledge or lived experience that helps strengthen the way Compass thinks, plans, develops and makes decisions.

We would particularly welcome people with experience or expertise in areas such as:

  • Finance and audit (Ideally with these qualifications:- CIMA, ACA, ACCA)
  • Governance, legal or regulatory compliance
  • Human Resources and organisational development
  • Digital, technology or data
  • Charity, public sector or commercial leadership
  • Lived experience relating to mental health, substance misuse, disability, caring responsibilities or other areas related to the services we provide.

Previous Non-Executive Director or trustee experience is welcome but is not essential. We value professional curiosity, creative thinking, sound judgement, and the confidence to provide constructive challenge and a genuine commitment to collaborative leadership.

We particularly welcome applications from people with diverse backgrounds including professional and lived experiences.

Whatever your journey, if you believe you can help Compass achieve its purpose, we would love to hear from you.
